The Government of Canada has designated the site of North Vancouver's
old shipyards as a National Historic Site. The property was bought by a
private developer and was being developed with a hotel, condos and shops.
The City of North Vancouver approached the developer and granted them
an increase in height and density in return for freeeing up land on the
waterfront for the National Maritime Centre of the Pacific and Arctic.
