As I was heading home through Waterfront Centre, I spotted a poster advertising the new
Peak-to-Peak gondola at Whistler, opening December 12. That's Whistler Mountain on the right,
Blackcomb Mountain on the left. The height of Blackcomb from the day lodge to the peak run is
over a mile and the trail from top to bottom is 5 miles, the biggest, highest, longest ski resort in
North America. So they built a gondola that is 4.4 km (1.88 miles) long and is suspended 436 m
(1427 feet) above Fitzsimmons Creek. A gondola will depart each end every 50 seconds and
a traverse takes 11 minutes. Whistler opens this November 26.
